Juventus will have to fork out €70 million if they want to sign Newcastle United’s midfield mainstay Sandro Tonali.
Juventus have been interested in the services of Sandro Tonali for some time now. The Old Lady could knock on the doors of Newcastle United this summer to bring the Italian international back to the Serie A. According to a report from Sportmediaset, the Turin-based outfit will have to pay around €60 to €70 million if they want to snatch him away from the Tyneside club.
Tonali made a name for himself at AC Milan before making the move to the Premier League in the summer of 2023. While he did spend a significant amount of time on the sidelines because of a ban, he has been a regular feature in Eddie Howe’s team when available.
The 24-year-old has established himself as one of their mainstays, and he did play a massive part in their EFL Cup success this season. His performances have put him on the radar of Juventus, who want to reinforce their squad ahead of next season.
The Old Lady are keen to add a world-class midfielder to help take the team to the next level, and Sandro Tonali is seen as an ideal fit for their project. Young and dynamic, Tonali is also a regular for the Italian national team, a factor that further strengthens his appeal.
He is equally good as a central midfielder as well as in a defensive role. While Juventus have been linked with him for a while now, and they would love to add him to their ranks, getting him out of Newcastle won’t be easy.
Newcastle will be reluctant to part ways with Tonali
The Magpies consider him a key part of their plans moving forward and won’t let him leave on the cheap. While Tonali is reportedly considering a move back to Italy, he is well aware of the fact that he is a fan favourite at St. James’ Park.
If the player does end up pushing for a move away amidst interest from Juventus, the Tyneside club will still look for a fee close to €60 to €70 million. Finances are likely to pose a massive challenge for the Old Lady, especially given the current financial climate surrounding Italian clubs.
However, Juventus could attempt to reduce the overall cost of the operation by including a player in the deal. They could look to involve Douglas Luiz in a swap deal, as he has struggled to make his mark in Italy. The Brazilian would likely welcome a return to the Premier League, where he previously enjoyed success with Aston Villa. But it remains to be seen whether Newcastle would be open to such a swap deal.
