Casemiro increasingly likely to stay at Manchester United until 2026

Manchester United’s efforts to offload Casemiro have suffered a setback, as he is now expected to stay until 2026.

Manchester United are going through a very difficult season, and the arrival of Ruben Amorim has not really helped their cause so far. But, they will certainly look to back the manager in the summer window and give him the players he needs to succeed at Old Trafford. At the same time, offloading high earners like Casemiro is on the agenda.

While they do have funds for the summer, Manchester United are also eager to increase those by offloading some of their highest-paid players who are not a part of their long-term plans. Casemiro is one of the names on that list. The Red Devils are looking to sanction his departure, but according to a report from TEAMtalk, they have suffered a blow as he is likely to stay until 2026 when his £350,000-a-week contract runs out.

Casemiro was at the peak of his powers when Manchester United forked out a significant fee to sign him from Real Madrid. While he did have an impressive debut campaign (2022/23), things have only gone downhill for him since. The 33-year-old has slowly gone down the pecking order, and he is not an important part of Amorim’s plans moving ahead.

While he still has well over a year left on his deal at Old Trafford, Manchester United want to get him off the books. His departure could free up significant wages allowing them to move freely in the market. There is interest in the Brazilian midfielder’s services from Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Turkey.

But, no club from any of the countries has shown any concrete interest because the player is not ready to budge on his salary demands. Meanwhile, United are also looking for a fixed fee of €30 million which further complicates any deal.

Casemiro would be open to a move away, but any interested club will have to match his £350,000-a-week wage. Even clubs from the Middle East are not ready to meet those demands, and they are willing to wait until 2026 when he will be a free agent.

The only way Manchester United can get rid of him is by lowering the €30 million asking price significantly or agreeing to send him out on loan where they pay a part of his wages. Otherwise, he might end up staying until his contract runs out in 2026.
