Patrick Dorgu agrees £3.3 million-a-year contract with Manchester United, clubs in direct contact

Patrick Dorgu has an agreement on personal terms with Manchester United, as talks with US Lecce advance in a bid to close the signing.

According to Shaun Connolly, Manchester United and Patrick Dorgu have an agreement on personal terms, with the 20-year-old Serie A whizkid now keen to sign for the club. Talks are at an advanced stage with US Lecce following direct contacts, as a deal could be struck before the February 3 deadline.

Manchester United had wanted to bring in a new left-back this month, which was their plan well before the winter market opened. They have explored some options in the market, as Ruben Amorim wants a specialist on that side of the pitch as he’s been using right-back Diogo Dalot extensively in that role.

The Portuguese manager prefers to play with wing-backs, meaning the club are specific in their search and would want to bring someone with capabilities to bomb up and down the flank. Patrick Dorgu had emerged as a big target earlier in the month, with Manchester United reportedly failing with multiple offers.

The Red Devils never came close to meeting US Lecce’s €40 million asking price, although the player has already agreed to move. As things stand, Dorgu has already found consensus on personal terms, with Shaun Connolly reporting a figure of £3.3 million per year on a long-term deal.

While Manchester United had some discouragements in their chase for Dorgu, they also briefly looked at Alvaro Carreras of Benfica as the Red Devils contemplated using a buy-back option on the former star. However, they are back on the case of Dorgu, with the club expected to make another bid for the Lecce star

Manchester United in direct talks with Lecce

Manchester United were set for fresh talks with Lecce, and as per Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs are in drect contact to thrash out a move for Dorgu. With personal terms not a problem in the deal, it’s up to the club to find an agreement on the fee.

Shaun Conolly insisted that another €3-4 million in add-ons could do the trick for Manchester United on top of their previous bid. The Red Devils are closer than ever to bringing their top left-back target, who could effectively play as a winger in games if needed, on either flank.
