Brazilian outfit Flamengo’s pursuit of the services of Arsenal midfield star Jorginho has reportedly reached a standstill.
According to a report from Globo Esporte, Flamengo have taken a back seat in their pursuit of Jorginho as there is a massive difference in the club’s offer and the player’s demands. The difference is expected to be around €3 million, which has resulted in the negotiations reaching a standstill.
After a successful spell at Chelsea, the Italian international made the move to the North London club at the start of 2023. He has been an important first-team player under Mikel Arteta since the start but of late, his game has been affected.
While the Spanish manager still counts on him, the 33-year-old is not happy with the limited game time. With just over 1,000 minutes in his 19 outings this season, Jorginho feels he should play more often. Since his contract at Arsenal runs out at the end of the season, clubs are looking to push for his signature as he looks unsettled in North London.
Flamengo are one of the clubs that are keen on acquiring the services. The Brazilian club are currently going through their pre-season are looking at ways to further bolster their midfield. They want to bring in a world-class star and feel Jorginho could take them to the next level.
Flamengo’s offer deemed not good enough
Flamengo reached out to the player and offered him a deal worth just over €10 million (including bonuses) for a three-year deal. But, the offer is not good enough for the 33-year-old, who seeks around €13 million for the same duration.
The 57-cap Italian international has informed Flamengo that their offer is below his expectations and his current contract with Arsenal. As a result, there has been zero progress regarding a potential transfer over the last few days. With nothing concrete happening with the Brazilian club, the player has not discussed with Arsenal the possibility of a free release which will only happen if he agrees on a deal with Flamengo.
Meanwhile, the Gunners do not really want to lose out on him. Arteta values him very highly as a squad player, and they are willing to offer him a one-year extension at the request of the manager. Flamengo are considering returning with an improved offer but they want the player to be more flexible with his demands.
