Tottenham are reportedly in front of the queue to sign Pascal Struijk from Leeds United, as £25 million could convince the Championship club.
According to Caught Offside, Tottenham are reportedly the top contender to sign Leeds United skipper Pascal Struijk ahead of January; Ange Postecoglou is eager to bring in a left-footed centre-back in the winter window to bolster his defence, as £25 million could prove enough to convince Leeds United to sell.
Defensive issues are Tottenham this season have been due to the high level of injuries to key defenders. For instance, they are currently playing some tough games without starting centre-backs Cristian Romero and Micky van de Ven, as Ange Postecoglou would like a cover option in January.
Tottenham also have plans to sign a new goalkeeper and, if possible, a new wide forward to improve their standards on both ends of the pitch. Spurs do have budget restrictions, meaning Postecoglou might have to prioritise a position or two and sacrifice one area of his squad in January.
He’s likely to focus on a goalkeeper and a defender, with Pascal Struijk a big target for Tottenham. They do have competition for the Leeds United captain, with Wolves and Brighton also mentioned as suitors for the Dutch centre-back.
Struijk is the ideal cover for Van de Ven, and with his compatriot often on the treatment table, it’s fair to say the Leeds man could have ample time on the field. The report states that Leeds United could sell for a fee of £25 million, which will be in Tottenham’s range.
Will Pascal Struijk suit Tottenham?
Struijk has already showcased his talent in the Premier League with Leeds United before, and would not take long to adjust to the top flight should he make a return. Spurs are eager to sign players with the know-how of the league rather than invest in someone who will take a lot of time adapting, as there are links to Abdukodir Khusanov of RC Lens, who is a young talent but largely inexperienced.
The £25 million-rated Championship captain would end up suiting what Tottenham want from the defender, as his aggressive style of play likely to complement the midfield and the attack. He will face competition from Van de Ven and Radu Dragusin, but the Leeds man has the mentality to fight off these challenges.
