Barcelona retain Luis Diaz interest

Hansi Flick’s Barcelona reportedly remain interested in acquiring the services of Liverpool’s Colombian attacker Luis Diaz.

As relayed by Fichajes, Barcelona have reignited their pursuit of the services of Luis Diaz. While he is an important first-team player at Liverpool, his contractual situation could complicate things and open up an opportunity for the Catalan giants to sign him ahead of next season.

After making a name for himself at FC Porto, Diaz made the move to the Merseyside club at the start of 2022. They forked out a massive €50 million fee to bring him to Anfield, and he has surely repaid their faith with consistent performances on the pitch.

Diaz has only gone from strength to strength over the last 18 months. He had an impressive campaign last season under Jurgen Klopp and has carried on in a similar fashion under Arne Slot. The Colombian international has contributed towards 12 goals in his 22 outings this season.

Luis Diaz unhappy at Liverpool

While everything is going great on the pitch, the 27-year-old is not really pleased with his contract situation. He joined the club on wages of just €3 million net per season. Diaz has not been offered a new deal with improved terms, and the current deal does not correspond to his importance in the team.

Liverpool are not ready to offer him a better contract because of their delicate financial situation. As a result, Diaz’s long-term future at the club has become a big talking point. While his current deal runs until the summer of 2027, the Colombian winger could end up pushing for a move away from the club.

Barcelona reignite interest in Diaz

Barcelona have emerged as a potential destination for Luis Diaz. The Catalan giants have a long-standing interest in him. They wanted to sign the Liverpool attacker last summer but things did not go according to plan for them. Hansi Flick’s team could now have an opportunity to strike a deal for him because of his contract situation.

While the Reds value him at around €80 million, the Spanish giants could have an opportunity to strike a deal for a lower fee if the player is unhappy and decides to push for an exit next summer. Barcelona have already reactivated their interest, and it is backed by their sporting director Deco who is in favour of Diaz’s arrival.
