Mohamed Salah reportedly wants a one-year deal to stay at Liverpool as the contractual situation of the Egyptian star rumbles on.
According to The Athletic, Mohamed Salah would prefer a one-year deal to stay at Liverpool, following further speculation surrounding the Egyptian’s future. The Key Liverpool star wants to keep playing at a competitive level and believes a short-term deal might be the answer as he continues to look differently towards the future.
On two occasions this season, Mohamed Salah has come out of away games and spoken openly to the media about his contractual situation. After Liverpool’s stellar win at Old Trafford earlier in the campaign, the Egyptian insisted there has not been an offer forthcoming from the club. He reiterated the same following their win over Southampton, as the winger starred on both occasions.
With his goal against Manchester City on Sunday, Salah took his tally to 11 goals in the Premier League and 13 across all competitions. He’s only one behind Erling Haaland’s tally of 12 and made yet another compelling case for him to be handed a new deal.
While the club are reporteldy making progress, many factors could be making Liverpool take on a rather conservative approach when it comes to Salah’s future. The Egyptian is their highest-paid star, and a new long-term deal may force the club to make a higher package than the current one, which will raise questions about their ability to pay even more.
There were reports of talks with PSG, but that is not the case with Salah, as he will have a big interest coming his way from January onwards. Saudi Arabian clubs are most eager to take the winger, as they view him as the highest-profile Muslim player in the world, and the Middle Eastern clubs are willing to pay massively to get his signature.
Mohamed Salah wants a one-year Liverpool deal
Salah recognises the opportunities on hand in terms of sporting and financial, as he wants to maintain the edge in the market. Given a scenario that he signs a long-term deal with Liverpool, it might make things difficult in the future for him to move and he could lose out on another big opportunity that may come his way in a year or two.
Hence, Salah reportedly wants a one-year contract to stay at Liverpool, which will allow him to keep his options open in the near future. With such an idea, Liverpool could still achieve a transfer fee of sorts if he leaves next summer, although the liklihood of that happening is less considering the Egyptian will be a key part when he does sign the new deal.
