Manchester United keen on David Raum

Manchester United have David Raum on their list of potential left-back options, and they could continue to monitor the German ahead of January.

According to Florian Plettenberg, David Raum has emerged on Manchester United’s list of potential left-back options. Ruben Amorim is closely looking to strengthen the wing-back position ahead of January, although any moves will depend on the finances available to the Portuguese manager.

Ruben Amorim has had a decent start as Manchester United’s manager, as the Portuguese will continue to monitor his squad ahead of the January window. There’s still a month left before the winter market opens, meaning the 39-year-old will have plenty of games to assess the squad requirements.

Immediately after coming to the club, Amorim took no time to deploy his system using a back three and wing-backs. He has also shown consistency with his setup, using a known defender on one wing and a recognised winger on the other flank.

Manchester United were thinking about a left-back on priority in January, and with the Portuguese’ requirements, they might look at specific profiles in the market. This means that he could now look for a player in the position who does well with the attacking side of things, as a wing-back might be a player of preference.

Theo Hernandez remains a target, but given his status at AC Milan and the potential high price point, any move for the Frenchman may appear impossible in January. Other names like Rayan Ait-Nouri are mentioned alongside Matteo Ruggeri, as there’s a new target mentioned recently, with David Raum’s name added to that list.

Manchester United keen on David Raum

Raum, known for his attacking attitude in the RB Leipzig side, could be seen as a good fit for Amorim’s system. The 26-year-old German defender reportedly held concrete discussions with Manchester United when they were looking for a solution in the left-back area, but a move never materialised.

Heading into January or even in the summer, Manchester United could view him as a solid enough target ahead. The likes of Luke Shaw and Tyrel Malacia have suffered numerous injury issues in recent times, meaning that to let Amorim progress in his game, he would need a permanent solution on that flank.
