Everton interested in Bryan Cristante, winter move unlikely

Everton are linked with an interest in Italian midfielder Bryan Cristante ahead of January, although a move for the AS Roma man looks unlikely.

According to Football Insider, Everton are interested in a move for Bryan Cristante ahead of the January transfer window, although any transfer will be extremely difficult to complete. These links to the Italian star emerged after the Friedkin Group inched closer to taking over the Toffees, as they also own AS Roma.

Everton face several decisions ahead of the January transfer window as the takeover talks continue to dominate the headlines. The Friedkin Group is inching closer to taking control of the club, and a takeover is very close to materialising.

Should they complete the takeover in time, the Friedkin Group will be able to provide considerable funds as well as ease through Everton’s financial struggles to start a new chapter. Hence, bringing new faces in the January transfer window is still possible, although the current regime will struggle to allocate funds to new players in the winter window.

One of the players to recently emerge on their radar is AS Roma midfielder Bryan Cristante. It does seem out of the blue to see these links with the Italian star, and it seems directly linked with the Friedkin takeover. Hence, this news must be taken with a pinch of salt, as it is unlikely to materialise.

Moreover, AS Roma have no reason to part ways with the 29-year-old midfielder, considering how important he is to their plans. From a sporting point of view, the Serie A outfit need their top performers to turn their current fortunes around, and Cristante is part of that group.

Everton set to invest in January

A defensive midfielder might not be the most pressing need at Goodison Park ahead of January, as Everton might need reinforcements in the attack. The futures of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto are in some considerable doubt, with the former’s contract set to expire in the summer, meaning a January sale is not impossible. They are linked with Ajax forward Brian Brobbey, as the club are willing to pay big for him.

Everton are also linked with Luiz Henrique, with the Brazilian winger a big target for them and others. Hence, the idea ahead of January seems more focused on improving the attacking lineup than any other area of the squad, as the Toffees do look to invest significantly, especially if the takeover is completed in a timely manner.
