West Ham United unlikely to pursue Jose Mourinho if they sack Julen Lopetegui

West Ham United will not look to appoint former Chelsea and Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho even if they part ways with Julen Lopetegui.

According to a report from Football Insider, West Ham United are not interested in having Jose Mourinho on their bench to replace Julen Lopetegui. While there is uncertainty around the future of the Spanish tactician and there are high chances of him getting sacked, the Hammers are not looking at Mourinho as an ideal replacement.

Lopetegui took charge of the London club in the summer. Following his arrival, the Hammers forked out a significant fee to reinforce their squad. Despite bringing in quite a few stars, West Ham have not been able to get the desired results.

The Spanish manager has not succeeded in getting his ideas across to the players as his team are 14th in the Premier League with just 12 points in 11 outings. Overall, they have lost six out of the 13 games, and Lopetegui’s future is already a massive talking point.

West Ham won’t make a move for Mourinho

Reports suggest that the Hammers could part ways with the former Wolves manager if he fails to turn things around in the next weeks. Jose Mourinho has been linked as a potential replacement. The Portuguese manager is currently the main man at Fenerbahce.

His contract at the Turkish club runs until the summer of 2026. But the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss, who has an impressive track record in the Premier League, has shown great desire to return to England. He was linked with the Newcastle United job, but it seems the Magpies are happy to stick with Eddie Howe.

Mourinho has shown interest in being the next West Ham manager as per reports but the Hammers are not considering appointing him even if they sack Lopetegui. The finances involved in parting ways with the Spanish manager and then getting the former Real Madrid boss out of Fenerbahce seem to be beyond their reach at this stage.

For now, the Hammers are backing their current boss as they have a favourable run of fixtures in the league. If he fails to get things back on track, they do have quite a few names on their wishlist.
