Arsenal are monitoring Shea Charles ahead of future windows, as Mikel Arteta is particularly interested in the Southampton midfielder.
According to Fichajes, Arsenal are planning signings for the future that involve young, up-and-coming stars. Shea Charles is one of the names mentioned to be of interest to Mikel Arteta, as the Southampton star continued his development with Sheffield Wednesday.
Southampton are known for identifying talents very early and then correctly aiding their development. In the case of young midfielder Shea Charles, they invested heavily in the 21-year-old former Manchester City prodigy, as the Saints paid over €12 million to sign him.
At the time of his arrival to St Marys, Charles barely had any top-flight experience, with a solitary start for Manchester City that came on the final day of the 2022-23 season, the only game to show for it. Yet, the Saints believed in his talents to invest heavily, and they could soon reap their rewards.
Charles was a key player for Southampton last season in the Championship. He made 32 league appearances, mostly in a defensive midfield role. He is versatile enough to play central defence or across different positions of the midfield as well as right-back.
While he’s been shining for Sheffield Wednesday back in the Championship, the midfielder feels his time has come to make the big leap. There are some clubs keen to sign him, including Arsenal, as the 21-year-old former Manchester City prodigy will look towards making that massive career switch next summer.
Arsenal are interested in Shea Charles
The Gunners are in the market for a recognised midfielder, Martin Zubimendi being their most recent target. Mikel Arteta has that idea for the present scenario, although the Spanish manager is also thinking hard about the future, as some progressive signings, including Charles, are planned.
Valencia Javi Guerra is also a target, which shows Arsenal’s eagerness to bring players who are ready to break through to the first team sooner rather than later. The idea of signing Northern Ireland international Charles will be seen as progressive, although this acquisition will be expensive, knowing Southampton will demand significantly for their talent.
