Arsenal are plotting a raid on Real Madrid for the services of Turkish gem Arda Guler, hoping to mirror their success with Martin Odegaard.
Arda Guler’s future has become a big talking point of late as the Turkish sensation has not had enough game time at Real Madrid. He could look to push for a move away from the Spanish capital, and there is no shortage of interest in him.
According to a report from Fichajes, Arsenal are one of the clubs keen on signing the Fenerbahce graduate. They are aiming to replicate the success they found with Martin Odegaard, having signed him from Los Blancos, where he was in a similar position back in the day.
Guler was already the talk of the town coming up the ranks at the Turkish club. He got promoted to Fenerbahce’s first team in the summer of 2021 and went from strength to strength playing for their senior side.
Arda’s Guler’s time at Real Madrid
While multiple top clubs from across Europe wanted to sign Arda Guler, Real Madrid beat the competition to his signature and added him to their squad in the summer of 2023. He struggled to stay fit during his debut campaign.
The Turk was back to full fitness towards the end of the 2023/24 season and did showcase the exceptional abilities he possesses. While everyone expected him to have more minutes in the ongoing campaign, Carlo Ancelotti has preferred using experienced campaigners.
Guler has been subject to a total of just 307 minutes of first-team football spread across 12 outings. Reports suggest the Turkiye international is frustrated by the lack of minutes. While the attacking midfielder’s contract with Real Madrid runs until the summer of 2029, he could still end up pushing for a move away, with a loan exit possible.
Arsenal to knock on the doors of Real Madrid again?
Arsenal have emerged as a potential destination for Arda Guler. The Gunners have earned a reputation for handing opportunities to young stars and developing them into special players. They are interested in adding Guler to their squad, having had great success with Martin Odegaard.
The North London club’s skipper was a part of the Real Madrid setup back in the day. Odegaard was frustrated with the lack of minutes, and they gave him a way out. He has since established himself as one of the best players in the Premier League.
The Gunners see in Guler an opportunity to repeat the formula. Arsenal’s financial strength, the player’s desire along with Real Madrid’s stance will play a massive role in any potential transfer in the upcoming window.
