West Ham United have suffered a massive blow in their pursuit of Botafogo attacking sensation Igor Jesus.
Julen Lopetegui is looking to reinforce his squad following a poor start to the new season. The Spanish manager wants to add more firepower to his ranks, and West Ham United are interested in the services of Igor Jesus. But, according to a report from TV Foco, the Brazilian striker has turned down the Hammers’ approach regarding a move to the Premier League.
After coming up the ranks at Coritiba FC, the 23-year-old forward ended up moving to the Middle East back in 2020. He returned to his homeland to join Botafogo in the summer and has only gone from strength to strength since.
The former Shabab Al-Ahli forward is on fire for his new club. He has found the back of the net on eight occasions and has also bagged three assists in his 23 outings. The Brazil international’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed and quite a few clubs are looking to prise him away in the winter.
Igor Jesus turns down a move to the Premier League
West Ham United are one of the clubs that are interested in Igor Jesus. They are currently 14th in the Premier League. It has not been an ideal start to the new campaign for Julen Lopetegui’s team, and they are looking to add more quality in January to help the Spanish manager get things back on track.
The East London outfit feel the Brazilian forward could help their cause. As a result, the Hammers approached Botafogo to learn more details about a potential transfer. They reportedly offered them R$225 million (around €40 million) for the young striker. Despite a significant fee on the table, the Irons are unlikely to be successful in the race for his signature.
Igor Jesus is having one of the best seasons of his career, and he is focused on doing his best for the team. The 23-year-old is not thinking about the next step and has rejected the English club’s proposal to move to the Premier League. He wants to continue at the Brazilian club, where his contract runs until the end of 2027.
