Newcastle United still view Alexander Isak as key player despite stalled contract talks

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle United will look to reopen contract renewal talks with Alexander Isak towards the end of the season.

According to a report from Football Insider, Alexander Isak remains a key figure at Newcastle United despite the fact that contract renewal talks had reached a standstill. While renewal negotiations have taken a back seat for now, United intend to reopen those talks towards the end of the season.

Isak arrived at Newcastle in the summer of 2022 after making a name for himself while playing for Real Sociedad. He has been a consistent performer for the Magpies in the Premier League and has established himself as one of the most exciting forwards in England.

While he only has four goals and an assist in the new season, Isak has slowly started to get back to his best. He remains one of the first names on the team sheet under Howe but his future has become a big talking point as top clubs in the country want to prise him away.

Isak’s current deal with the Red Devils runs until the summer of 2028. While there is a significant amount of time left on his deal, reports suggest he could be on the move in the near future.

Newcastle want to secure Isak’s long-term future

The Tyneside club wants to ensure their star forward stays at the club at all costs. As a result, they were keen on offering him a new lucrative deal. While the Magpies did initiate renewal talks, those advances have been stalled.

Both parties have decided to put contract discussions on the back burner as Isak wants to focus on regaining full fitness and getting back to his best. While renewal talks might have taken a back seat, the Magpies do intend on re-opening those talks in the future.

They will look to once again hold talks with the Swedish international towards the end of the season as they want to ensure interested clubs do not have a chance of luring him away during the next summer window.

Meanwhile, the Magpies have added a young striker to their squad. They have signed Vakhtang Salia who will be joining them next summer after he turns 18. But, this signing is unlikely to have any impact on Isak’s position in the team.
