Tottenham could part ways with Timo Werner in January

Tottenham are reportedly willing to let go of Timo Werner ahead of the January window, as a return to RB Leipzig could become a possibility.

According to Kicker, Timo Werner’s time at Tottenham could suffer a premature end when the January window opens. The attacker has not performed to the required levels, which could see Spurs offload him well before his loan spell ends, as they could target a new attacker in his place.

Timo Werner never reached the heights of his performances for RB Leipzig in his first spell there before making the move to Chelsea. His displays in England have produced more question marks than goals, and that remains the case at Tottenham.

Werner joined Ange Postecoglou’s side last January and has been average at best. Tottenham’s decision to re-sign him on another loan surprised many of their fans, and so far, they have not seen the best of the 28-year-old first-team ace.

Werner has been complacent about missing too many chances in front of the goal, while there are question marks over his overall performances in the side. Either way, only a few are confident when he takes the pitch for Tottenham, which does not give them the edge needed in the final third.

Tottenham are now considering their options with the 28-year-old first-team ace, which would include sending him back to RB Leipzig. Spurs have an option to buy Werner at the end of the season, and from the looks of it, he could be sent back well before that point comes about.

Tottenham could look to replace Werner in January

Tottenham are keen to bolster their attacking setup, with links to Antoine Semenyo indicating which positions they want to strenghtnen. Should someone like the Bournemouth attacker arrive, it would signal the end for Werner.

Werner’s contract with Leipzig expires in 2026, and he’s clearly not part of their future, meaning they will also look to find a new solution to his problem. However, things could still change for him at Tottenham with effective performances between now and January, as there’s every chance to win back the manager’s faith.
