Manchester United will have to fork out a massive £17 million if they want to part ways with their manager Erik ten Hag.
After failing to win any of their last five matches across competitions, Manchester United finally returned to winning ways against Brentford. While it surely put some weight off the shoulders of Erik ten Hag whose future has been a massive talking point in recent weeks, he will have to consistently deliver the right results to stay at Old Trafford.
A few wrong results could cost him his job, but it won’t come cheap for the Red Devils. According to a report from Football Insider, Manchester United will have to pay a massive fee of £17 million to sack the Dutch manager.
Erik ten Hag’s future was uncertain after the end of the 2023/24 season. But, the Manchester United board decided to back him and gave him added funds to improve the squad. However, the results have not followed as they made the worst start to a new season in their history.
They were 14th heading into the game against Brentford. While the three points have helped them climb up to 11th, it still does not guarantee ten Hag his future at the club. The club’s hierarchy held multiple meetings in London during the international break over a potential sacking but they decided against it.
Why Manchester United don’t want to sack ten Hag
One of the major reasons why they decided to back him for the foreseeable future could be because of the cost of the operation to get rid of the 54-year-old. The report has revealed that it will cost Manchester United £17 million to send him packing.
It is a massive fee and could have a huge impact on the club’s spending in the future transfer windows. They have been dealing with some FFP concerns of late, and the new ownership has been trying their best to lower their expenditure to ensure they can move swiftly in the transfer window.
While the Red Devils ideally won’t want to show ten Hag the exit door, if results do not improve the Red Devils won’t really have an option. They have recently suffered massive blows as their top two targets Thomas Tuchel and Gareth Southgate are no longer available for the role forcing them to look elsewhere in case of a potential sacking of the former Ajax manager.
