Liverpool prioritising Virgil van Dijk renewal

Liverpool defender Virgil van Dijk is nearing the end of his contract at the club, and the Reds are now prioritising a renewal.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have made it their priority to renew the contract of Virgil van Dijk. The Dutchman is currently earning £220,000-a-week wages at the Merseyside club, and he is in the final year of his contract with the club.

Liverpool will not want to lose him as a free agent in the summer of 2025, and it makes sense for them to agree on an extension with the player. The Dutch defender is a world-class player, and he has been exceptional for Liverpool since joining the club.

He has helped them win major trophies like the Premier League title and the UEFA Champions League. Keeping him at the club should be a top priority for Liverpool. Despite being in his 30s, the Dutchman continues to perform at a high level and he has been world-class for Liverpool this season.

There won’t be any shortage of clubs looking to sign the defender if he is made available in the coming months. Liverpool must do everything in their power to convince him and agree on a new deal with the player. It is fair to assume that a new deal is likely to come with a pay rise on his current £220,000-a-week wages. Given his performances, it will be richly deserved.

Van Dijk could consider Liverpool extension

Apart from being an indispensable asset for the club, Virgil van Dijk is the captain of Liverpool Football Club as well. He has no reason to push for an exit from the club, and the player could be attracted to the idea of signing an extension with them. It will be interesting to see how the situation develops.

Liverpool have done quite well under their new manager so far, and they are currently on top of the league table. They have an ambitious project and a talented squad. The Dutch defender will look to compete for major trophies with them in the coming seasons as well, and it would not be a surprise if he signs a new deal with the club soon.

Apart from the Dutchman, Liverpool will need to agree on a new deal with Trent Alexander-Arnold and Mohamed Salah as well.
