Arsenal are unlikely to trigger the £68 million release clause in Victor Osimhen’s contract in January, as they will wait to sign a new striker.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are unlikely to trigger the £68 million release clause despite holding an interest in the summer. The reduced asking price of the Nigerian striker may not convince the Gunners to make a move, as there are concerns with their spending amid the PSR spotlight. Chelsea are also unlikely to sign him.
Victor Osimhen became a big story in the transfer window late in the summer following his inability to find a top club. By that period, his career at Napoli was considered over once he expressed his desire to leave, with Chelsea the only one coming agonisingly close to signing him.
However, his massive release clause then proved problematic, although, in Chelsea’s case, the disagreement was around personal terms, as per multiple reports. The Blues are unlikely to sign him in January despite Osimhen now having a reduced release clause of £68 million as per his new agreement with Napoli.
As his departure from Napoli was all but certain and Antonio Conte removed him from his plans, Osimhen took the chance to join Turkish giants Galatasaray. He has continued to shine for the team, with two goals and four assists in four games across all competitions. However, the loan agreement in Turkey does have a break clause, which will allow the £68 million-rated striker to leave in January.
Arsenal were also briefly interested during the summer, although the chances of them signing the Nigerian are remote. The Gunners are unlikely to trigger the £68 million release clause in January, as it will not suit their PSR obligations, although the primary reason might have been the kind of striker they want next.
Arsenal unlikely to sign Osimhen
Arsenal may enter the market next summer for a new striker, as they are not planning on improving the position in January. However, Osimhen might not be the player they will be looking for, as Mikel Arteta has different ideas. For instance, they are still keen on Benjamin Sesko, who they failed to sign in the summer.
Other targets include LOSC Lille’s soon-to-be free agent Jonathan David and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Omar Marmoush, with scouts watching the latter in a recent game. Hence, they might bring in a new frontman next summer, but it may not be Osimhen.
