Liverpool are considering making a move for the services of Aston Villa and Tottenham defensive target Michael Kayode in January.
Michael Kayode was linked with a move to the Premier League during the summer transfer window. While things did not go according to plan back then, he could still move to England when the transfer window reopens at the turn of the calendar.
According to Corriere dello Sport via Sport Witness, Liverpool have emerged as a potential destination for the Italian full-back, who has struggled for game time at Fiorentina in the ongoing season. If things do not improve, he could look to part ways with the club in the winter.
Kayode was a part of the Juventus youth ranks back in the day. While things did not work out for him at the Turin-based club, he has flourished since joining Fiorentina in 2021. He started off with their Under-19s before getting promoted to the first team in the summer of 2023.
In his debut season, the 20-year-old right-back racked up close to 3000 minutes across his 37 appearances for La Viola. He even contributed towards five goals, but things have not been that great for him in the 2024/25 season. The youngster has been on the pitch for just 18 minutes across his two Serie A outings.
With just 158 minutes in his five outings, Kayode seems frustrated by the lack of minutes. While his contract with Fiorentina runs until the summer of 2028, he could push for a move away in January.
Kayode could be headed to the Premier League
Brentford were close to signing the young prospect during the summer as they had an offer rejected for him. A higher proposal could have made it happen. But things did not turn that way. Kayode could still be heading to the English top flight as there is interest in him from Aston Villa, Tottenham and Liverpool.
Aston Villa and Tottenham Hotspur were both looking to add more depth to the full-back position, and they were linked with the 20-year-old during the summer. Unai Emery’s team want someone who can challenge Matty Cash for a place in the starting XI.
While both clubs could return for him when the window reopens, the report suggests Liverpool are the front-runners in the race for his services at this stage. The Reds have him on their wishlist for January and could make an offer to lure him away from Fiorentina.
Liverpool already have a world-class right-back in Trent Alexander-Arnold. But his long-term future is uncertain, and the Reds in general could look at Kayode as someone who can help them in the long run. The 20-year-old could be a great fit in the Merseyside club’s team, but he is unlikely to get much game time under Arne Slot from the start. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the move actually goes through.
