Liverpool’s medical department are increasingly concerned about their shot-stopper Alisson Becker’s mounting history of injuries.
Liverpool have made a flying start to the new season under the leadership of Arne Slot. They are currently top of the Premier League heading into the international break. But they do have a major concern, as Alisson Becker has picked up yet another injury.
According to a report from Football Insider, the Reds’ medical department is concerned about their Brazilian shot-stopper’s growing injury record. He has picked up quite a few injuries in recent seasons and has been forced to miss a significant number of games.
The Merseyside club picked up a 1-0 win over Crystal Palace in their last outing. But, they lost Alisson to a hamstring injury. The 32-year-old hurt his hamstring, and Arne Slot was forced to replace him with Vítezslav Jaros in the 79th minute of the game.
The severity of the problem is not yet known as the Merseyside club are carrying out further tests which will determine how long the Brazilian will be out. Alisson has missed as many as 40 matches over the last five seasons which is way more than any other shot-stopper in the league.
Alisson’s reign as Liverpool’s number one is over?
While Liverpool do have Caoimhin Kelleher who is expected to come into the starting XI to cover for the former AS Roma shot-stopper, the fact that their £150,000-a-week star has been picking up injuries every now and then has become a major concern for the Reds.
They are well aware of his injury history and it surely played a part in them agreeing a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia. The Georgia international has stayed at the Spanish outfit for another season, he will be moving to Anfield before the start of the 2025/26 season.
With Alisson’s future uncertain, Mamardashvili is seen as an ideal long-term replacement. He can not only compete with the Brazilian for a place in the starting XI but can even take over from him if needed. For now, Liverpool have quite a few important fixtures after the international break and they will hope, the 32-year-old is not out for long.
