Arsenal have offered St Mirren prodigy Marcello de Barros a trial at their Hale End academy, as they could plot a transfer if he succeeds.
According to Football Insider, Arsenal are keen on St Mirren youngster Marcello de Barros and have offered the highly-rated Scottish youth international a trial at their Hale End Academy. If he succeeds during the temporary period, the Gunners will make an effort to sign him on a permanent basis.
Mikel Arteta has been criticised for not giving academy stars enough opportunities. The Spaniard will complete five years in December this year, and his record in promoting young players has been abysmal until now.
Barring an occasional cameo for a young academy stay, probably in a cup game, Arteta has yet to manage to excel in that category. Some might argue that Eddie Nketiah, Bukayo Saka, Emile Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson were all part of the Hale End academy; in truth, they had already made their senior debuts before Arteta’s arrival as manager.
However, this season, he has had a change of vision after a raft of academy departures in the summer. The Arsenal boss has ensured there’s a big future ahead for some of their young stars, including Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, with the duo now looking like a key part of the first-team squad. Moreover, in a recent cup clash against Bolton, Arteta fielded seven academy graduates.
Hence, looking at those two above, any youngster will want to join their setup in the hope of being part of the youth revolution at Arsenal. The Gunners are already looking at some prodigious talents for their academy. Arsenal are eager to see De Barros succeed at the trial if he accepts the invitation. His profile as a left-sided centre-back will be seen as a valuable commodity for the future, and hence, they are keen to snap him up before other rivals enter the chase.
