Everton have been linked with a move for 65-year-old Italian manager Maurizio Sarri, who has previously managed Chelsea in the Premier League.
Former Chelsea manager Maurizio Sarri has been linked with the return to the Premier League, with Everton considering parting ways with Sean Dyche after a disastrous start to the 2024/25 season.
However, a report from Caught Offside has now shared information from Fabrizio Romano that Everton’s links with the 65-year-old Italian tactician are unlikely to materialise.
Romano said, “Despite being out of work for 18 months, Maurizio Sarri remains a fantastic manager. I’m sure he’s keeping himself updated, always on point, always active. He’s not kind of manager who leaves it all when he’s not working. About Everton, I’ve no confirmation of that story so far. No approaches, no talks.”
Romano has played down speculations surrounding a move to go to Goodison Park, and it will be interesting to see if Everton can bring in a quality alternative if they decide to part ways with Sean Dyche.
The former Burnley manager has struggled to get the best out of his team this season, and Everton are yet to win a single Premier League game. They were fighting a relegation battle in the last two seasons, and it seems that they will be fighting for survival again.
Sarri would be a quality addition
Sarri has previously shown his quality in the Premier League with Chelsea, and he could have been a quality addition. There is no doubt that he would have been a major upgrade on Dyche. The 65-year-old helped Chelsea win the UEFA Europa League during his time at the club, and he impressed with his high-intensity attacking football as well.
Everton need to freshen things up, and appointing a proven winner would be a wise decision. It remains to be seen whether Sarri is ready to take up the job. It would be a massive challenge for him. The 65-year-old Italian manager will probably look to join a club where he will be able to compete for major trophies.
Moving to Everton would be a step down for him, and it remains to be seen whether the Toffees can convince him to take over. There is no doubt that he is a quality manager, and he could help Everton bounce back. The Toffees have been linked with a host of names in recent months, and it remains to be seen with who they end up appointing eventually.
