Arsenal, Manchester United line up winter swoop of Benjamin Sesko

Arsenal and Manchester United are among those keen to sign Benjamin Sesko ahead of the January transfer window, as the striker could leave RB Leipzig.

According to TEAMtalk, Arsenal and Manchester United are contemplating January bids for Benjamin Sesko, with the Slovenian striker likely to be allowed to leave RB Leipzig. The youngster has been on the radars of many clubs, with the Premier League duo likely to show more of an interest than others.

Benjamin Sesko was a big target for Arsenal, and it is believed they only targeted him during the summer for the striker role. There were links to other attackers like Viktor Gyokeres, among others. Still, the Gunners never really made an approach for any of those except for the Slovenian, who reportedly had a modest release clause in his contract.

It is understood that the new deal at Leipzig would have a release clause, plus a gentleman’s agreement between the two parties to let the striker leave in 2025. Whether that translates to a January move remains the question, as Arsenal reportedly retain an interest.

Manchester United are also keen on the striker, although there is no real need for another centre-forward, considering they already signed Joshua Zirkzee in the summer. The Red Devils also have Rasmus Hojlund, but INEOS are looking at younger profiles, readymade for the first team squad ahead of future windows, which does make the 21-year-old prospect a possible fit.

Arsenal’s push during the summer means they might have a better idea of what the player and his camp want from a future transfer. The Gunners are interested in a new striker, but they are no longer looking at Sesko, as per recent reports. However, he could still be a player of interest ahead of the January window if others are not available then.

Sesko unlikely to leave in January

RB Leipzig fought hard to retain Sesko during the summer and will not want to sell the 21-year-old prospect in January, especially after he signed a contract extension in June. While the notion of the ‘gentleman’s agreement’ between the two parties could be accurate, but that does not mean he will be allowed a transfer as soon as the next window opens.

Hence, on a realistic note, Sesko could depart the Bundesliga club, but possibly in the summer, when he could have a clearer picture of interested clubs and the projects on offer. So Manchester United and Arsenal are unlikely to find any success in January in the pursuit of the 21-year-old prospect, although they could return during the summer.
