Newcastle United have received a major blow in their pursuit of the services of Everton attacking ace Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Newcastle United are keen on reinforcing their attack ahead and they are interested in the services of Dominic Calvert-Lewin. The Magpies failed to secure his service despite making a bid in the summer but according to a report from HITC, the Tyneside club have received a massive boost as the English international’s contract renewal talks with Everton have collapsed.
Calvert-Lewin joined the Merseyside club back in 2016 and he has been an integral part of their first team over the years. While he has struggled to stay fit and his form hasn’t been that great either, the 27-year-old remains a key part of their team.
The English striker has made an impressive start to the new season with two goals and an assist in his first five league outings. While he is a key part of Sean Dyche’s plans, Calvert-Lewin might not be around for long as his contract runs out in the summer of 2025.
The former Sheffield United was linked with a move away from the club during the summer and Newcastle were one of the clubs keen on signing him. While they did make an offer, it wasn’t good enough to get the job done.
Newcastle receive boost in Calvert-Lewin pursuit
The Magpies might have failed back then but they retain interest in him and could return for his signature in the winter. They have already received a massive boost as the player has turned down the latest contract renewal offer from Everton.
He had already turned down a few offers and it seems the talks have completely collapsed. These talks are unlikely to resume anytime soon as Everton find themselves in the middle of a potential takeover. John Textor is keen on buying Farhad Moshiri’s stakes in the Toffees, but his ownership of Crystal Palace is causing problems.
Talks with Calvert-Lewin regarding a new deal are unlikely to restart until the takeover situation is resolved. Things don’t look that promising for the Merseyside club and with the prospect of him leaving for free next summer, Everton could consider cut-price offers for his signature.
While they already have Alexander Isak, Eddie Howe would be absolutely delighted to have someone of Calvert-Lewin’s capabilities in his team. He could cover for the Swedish star and also battle with him for a place in the starting XI.
