Liverpool progressing in contract talks for Luis Diaz

Liverpool are making progress in contract renewal talks with their Colombian ace Luis Diaz amidst interest from Barcelona.

According to a report from Graeme Bailey on Rousing The Kop, Liverpool are looking to extend the stay of Luis Diaz who has made an impressive start to the 2024/25 season. He was linked with a move to Barcelona throughout the summer but has ended up staying at the Merseyside club. Having done wonders under Arne Slot in the initial fixtures, the Reds want to secure his long-term future with a new deal.

After making a name for himself at FC Porto, Diaz made the move to Liverpool at the start of 2022 in a deal worth £50 million (including add-ons). He became an integral part of their first team under Jurgen Klopp in no time.

But, the Colombian international was not really at his best in the 2024/25 season. He only had 13 goals and five assists to his name last term. Following the departure of Klopp, Diaz was linked with a move away from the club and Barcelona emerged as a potential destination.

The Catalan giants were looking to add more firepower to their squad. But they could not strike a deal for his services, and he ended up staying at Anfield. While things did not go according to plan for him last term, the 27-year-old has had a dream start in the new season.

Liverpool to reward Diaz with a new deal

He has scored five goals and also has an assist in his first five league games. People at the club are quite impressed with his performances, and they are looking to reward him with a new deal as he has hit the ground running under Arne Slot.

The Reds were frustrated with Diaz’s representatives after they publicly pushed their client to join Barcelona in the summer. But, it seems it has not had any effect on their relationship with the player. Diaz also seems happy at Liverpool and following an incredible start, they are looking to offer him a new deal.

The Merseyside outfit are looking to make progress in talks with regard to a new deal and are currently in the process of sitting down with the Colombian winger to discuss fresh terms and extend his stay beyond the summer of 2027. If things go according to plan, the former FC Porto forward should pen down a new deal before the end of 2024.
