Tottenham worrying about Arsenal hijack in Eberechi Eze chase

Tottenham Hotspur are concerned about a potential Arsenal hijack in their pursuit of Crystal Palace star Eberechi Eze.

Tottenham have been keen on acquiring the services of Eberechi Eze for a while now. The Crystal Palace attacking midfielder has been on their wishlist for over a year now. They might have failed to strike a deal for his services in the summer, but Spurs retain their interest in the England international. However, according to a report from Football Transfers, Ange Postecoglou’s team fear Arsenal will hijack the deal.

Eze has not looked back since joining the Eagles in the summer of 2020 from QPR. He has only gone from strength to strength and has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances. While he did struggle with injuries, the 26-year-old still had an impressive 2023/24 campaign as he contributed towards 17 goals (11 goals, 6 assists) in his 31 outings.

His consistent performances helped him secure a place in the England squad for Euro 2024.  His performances and his versatility had put him on the radar of multiple top clubs. There was a significant amount of interest in his services during the recently concluded summer transfer window.

Tottenham remain keen on signing Eberechi Eze

Tottenham were one of the clubs keen on signing the English international. The North London club have been chasing his signature for over a year, and they even had a gentleman’s agreement with the player regarding a move based on them meeting the Eagles’ £68 million valuation.

Daniel Levy had even invited the Crystal Palace attacking sensation’s family to the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to watch the North London Derby towards the end of last season. Everything indicated that they would soon strike a deal to bring him to the club.

But, the deal took a massive turn when Ange Postecoglou’s team were informed by the player’s representatives that Arsenal had entered the race for his services. The Gunners’ involvement complicated things, and Spurs decided to shift their focus towards Dominic Solanke.

Tottenham fear an Arsenal hijack

The funds earmarked for Eze were spent on bringing the Bournemouth ace to North London. Despite Arsenal’s involvement, the English attacking midfielder ended up staying at Crystal Palace. Both clubs retain their interest in the services of the former QPR star who can feature on either flank as well as number 10.

But, Spurs fear Arsenal could hijack the deal and they do stand a better chance as they brought in Raheem Sterling on a season-long loan to reinforce their attack. It is a straightforward loan deal which means the Gunners will have room in their squad as well as on their wage bill to sign him next summer.
