Tottenham negotiate a buy option for Cardoso
Real Betis were in talks with the North London club to sign Giovani Lo Celso to fill in for the departing Nabil Fekir. During those negotiations, Spurs were keen on including an option to sign Cardoso next summer.
Tottenham were willing to offer €25 million for the 22-year-old defensive midfielder, and the Spanish club were more than happy to meet their demands as it allowed them to bring Lo Celso back to La Liga in a cut-price deal.
Tottenham have surely done some exceptional work in the recently-concluded window, and this deal in particular could be one of their highlights as they managed to get rid of Lo Celso who was surplus to requirements and managed to get an option to buy Cardoso next summer.
While exact details have not been made public yet, Spurs will have to pay €25 million and the option will be available for two weeks. Once the deadline is over, other clubs will be able to challenge Ange Postecoglou’s team for his services.
