Crystal Palace make approach for Marco Silvestri

Crystal Palace have enquired about the availability of Udinese shot-stopper Marco Silvestri as they seek depth in the goalkeeping position.

According to Gianluca DiMarzio, Crystal Palace have knocked on the doors of Udinese Calcio to make an initial enquiry about the availability of Marco Silvestri. The Eagles are looking to bring in a new backup goalkeeper before the end of the window and have been in talks with multiple targets.

Silvestri made the move to Udinese from Hellas Verona in the summer of 2021. Over the last three years, he has featured in over 90 matches for the Serie A outfit and has kept a clean sheet in 21 of those fixtures.

While the 33-year-old started the 2023/24 season as their first choice in goal, he eventually lost his starting place and was only involved in 18 matches last season. With Maduka Okoye becoming the first-choice shot-stopper at the Serie A club, Silvestri is now keen on parting ways with the club.

Udinese are also ready to sanction the departure of the Italian goalkeeper with just 12 months remaining on his contract. While rival Serie A club Cagliari have already been in talks to sign the veteran shot-stopper, they are all set to face competition from Crystal Palace.

Crystal Palace looking to sign a new goalkeeper

The Eagles are looking to bring in a new backup goalkeeper before the end of the transfer window. While Dean Henderson is expected to continue as their number one, they want someone who can cover for him and have been linked with multiple shot-stoppers.

With Sam Johnstone joining Wolves in a permanent deal, they are in the market for an ideal replacement. Mark Travers has been on their radar and as per reports, they have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest to sign Matt Turner on loan. But, nothing has been sealed yet. As a result, they are also looking at Udinese’s Silverstri.

The Italian outfit are working to get the 33-year-old off their books before the end of the window and the Eagles could come to their rescue. They have already made an initial enquiry, and it will be interesting to see if they make any moves in the coming hours.
