Arne Slot’s Liverpool are looking to make a late move for the services of Argentine defensive midfielder Santiago Hezze.
Liverpool were inactive for most parts of the transfer window but they have come to life just at the right moment. After having successfully strengthened their attack by signing Federico Chiesa from Juventus, the Reds are looking to add more quality to their midfielder and according to Stephen Kountourou, Arne Slot’s team are plotting a late move for Santiago Hezze.
Hezze came up the ranks at Huracán and made a name for himself while playing for their first team before making the jump to Olympiacos last summer. He enjoyed an incredible debut campaign with the Greek club as he was involved in 50 matches and played a big part in their UEFA Conference League success.
The defensive midfielder’s impressive performances have put him on the radar of quite a few clubs. While he still has four years left on his deal with Olympiacos, clubs are looking to prise him away in the near future.
Liverpool have launched a late move to sign Hezze
Liverpool have identified Hezze as a potential target to reinforce their midfield. While the Reds did sign Japanese veteran Wataru Endō last summer, he was a short-term fix for them. They want to bring in a younger option this summer and were linked with Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi.
While reports suggested the Merseyside club were within touching distance of his signature, the Spanish international decided against parting ways with his childhood club. As a result, Liverpool have been on the lookout for an alternative solution. They feel Hezze could be a great signing for the short as well as the long run.
He has shown great promise and if he carries on in a similar fashion, the 22-year-old could soon become a mainstay at the club. While the Reds are plotting a late move for the Argentine midfielder, it will be very difficult to convince Olympiacos to sell him at this stage as they might not be able to bring in a replacement.
