Rayan Cherki could sign new Lyon deal amid Liverpool links

Rayan Cherki could decide on his immediate future, as he might consider signing a new long-term deal presented by Lyon.

According to L’Equipe, Rayan Cherki could stay put at Lypon and sign a new long-term deal at the Ligue 1 giants. Lyon had agreed with multiple clubs to sell the playmaker during different periods of the summer, but he’s not interested in joining either of those as he could extend his stay.

Is Rayan Cherki to sign the new Lyon deal?

For at least over a year, Lyon had shown indications that they were willing to sell Rayan Cherki. Had they had enough time last summer, they would have offloaded the 21-year-old Ligue 1 playmaker, but circumstances prevented any transfer from materialising.

This summer, they accepted a bid from PSG in June, but the transfer never happened. Cherki reportedly wanted to join Borussia Dortmund, who, despite holding an interest, never made a bid for the 21-year-old Ligue 1 playmaker. Liverpool were also linked lately, as the Merseysiders are in the market for new arrivals after a quiet summer. Despite those extensive links, any move seems unlikely at this stage for the Lyon star.

Fulham agreed a fee with Lyon, and for a while, it appeared he would join the Cottagers and add to their tremendous summer window. However, the player is not interested in moving to the London side, and with his preferred destination not an option at this point, things might have changed with his future.

Lyon have presented a new long-term deal to the playmaker, with a slight pay rise. Should Cherki sign the contract, he will also be integrated back into the first-team squad, as so far, he does not have a place. As things stand, Cherki is leaning towards committing his future to the club and becoming an integral part of their plans for the current season.

Cherki commitment key for Lyon

Cherki is a player who is highly rated by many around Europe, and there’s good value for a star of his profile in the market. Lyon had gone through an indifferent situation with the playmaker, although with a new contract, they can plan their next steps well.

With a club embroiled in constant financial struggles, it would have been a tremendous loss for them to sell a player of Cherki’s quality for a cheap price. With the new deal, they can plan out his future well and attract more significant bids next summer, and with the window shrinking fast, the playmaker will have limited choice, which makes him a favourite to commit to the new contract.
