Liverpool make approach for Federico Chiesa, Barcelona rule out move

Arne Slot’s Liverpool have enquired about the availability of Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, while Barcelona have taken a back seat in the race.

Liverpool are the only Premier League team who have not signed a player yet. While they have been slow to get off the blocks, the Reds have been working very hard to bring in a few players before Friday’s deadline. Arne Slot seeks more firepower in attack, and they are interested in Federico Chiesa. According to Fabrizio Romano, the Merseyside club have made an initial approach as they look to sign the Italian winger.

Chiesa had an exceptional start to life at Juventus after joining them from Fiorentina towards the end of 2020. While he did become one of their mainstays, the 26-year-old has struggled with injuries in recent seasons, and he has not been able to return to his best.

With the Italian international’s contract running out in 2025 and the player not keen on a new deal, Juventus are looking to cash in on him. The Old Lady do not want to lose out on Federico Chiesa for free, and they are ready to sell him for a cut-price fee.

Liverpool keen on Chiesa, and Barcelona drop interest

The Italian international is not in the plans of Thiago Motta and has been left out of their first team as they look to find a solution for him. While quite a few clubs have been linked with him, nothing concrete has happened so far. But, it seems Liverpool have started making moves to sign the Juventus winger.

The Reds have been inactive for most parts of the window. But they have decided to put their foot on the accelerator for the final days. Liverpool have made an initial approach for Federico Chiesa, who has been made available by Juventus. The Merseyside club contacted Juventus yesterday as they explore the conditions for a potential deal, with the player keen on making the move to the Premier League.

Meanwhile, Liverpool have a massive boost in their pursuit as Barcelona have decided to cool their interest. They have been linked with Chiesa for a while now. But according to a report from Marca, the Catalan giants have ruled out the possibility of signing him because of Fair Play regulations, which have not allowed them to register Dani Olmo yet. On top of that, Barcelona cannot afford to pay around €12 million on his transfer plus his wages.
