Scott McTominay approves Napoli move, waiting for Manchester United payoff

Scott McTominay has given the green light to move to Napoli but is awaiting a payoff agreement with Manchester United.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Scott McTominay has agreed to join Antonio Conte’s Napoli this summer. While the Scottish international is ready to leave his childhood club, he is waiting for discussions with Manchester United about a payoff.

McTominay joined the Red Devils back in 2002. He came up the ranks at some pace and has been with their first team since the summer of 2017. He grew in stature with every passing season and became an integral part of their setup. But things have not been that great for him in recent seasons.

Scott McTominay got just over 1,600 minutes in the 2022/23 season, but things improved a lot in the 2023/24 campaign thanks to his incredible form in front of the goal. McTominay contributed towards 13 goals and racked up over 2,700 minutes.

Despite his performances and his versatility, Erik ten Hag does not really count on the 27-year-old moving ahead. While there is an option to extend his contract until the summer of 2026, Manchester United seem keen on getting him off their books. It will help them save a significant amount of wages and the departure of an academy graduate will result in pure profit.

Napoli closing in on McTominay’s signature

Napoli are one of the clubs that have emerged as a potential destination for the Scottish midfielder. The Serie A outfit are looking to reinforce their squad, and Scott McTominay is admired by the people at the club. His versatility could help Antonio Conte significantly.

After working on a potential deal for weeks, the Partenopei have reached an agreement with the Red Devils. They are ready to pay €30 million including add-ons to sign the Manchester United academy graduate. The Red Devils have managed to secure a decent sell-on clause which could help them in the future.

Napoli have also managed to convince McTominay about the move. The player has given his green light as he likes their project but there are a few important details that need to be sorted. He is waiting to discuss payoff terms with United similar to what happened in Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s move to West Ham United.
