Manchester United close to €60 million agreement for Manuel Ugarte

Manchester United and PSG are closing in on an agreement for midfielder Manuel Ugarte, with a fee of €60 million being mooted.

According to Le Parisien, Manuel Ugarte could soon find himself in a Manchester United shirt as an agreement with PSG seems imminent. The two clubs could shake handshands on a dry €60 million deal, similar to what the Parisians paid for the South American ace last summer.

Manuel Ugarte close to joining Manchester United

In hindsight, the Manuel Ugarte saga has dragged as long as it could have, and now things are looking positive for Manchester United. The club opened talks with PSG earlier in the summer, but the Red Devils were uninterested in paying a fee close to €70 million.

There was a significant impasse for many weeks until the deal got back on track, as an agreement now seems imminent. Manchester United and PSG are in advanced discussions to find a solution, with the report stating that €60 million could be on the cards.

The price point seems fair for a player who remains a highly-rated talent and who cost PSG roughly a similar price last summer when he moved from Sporting CP. Ugarte has reported his desire to join Manchester United to the club, with personal terms also considered in place for the South American Ace.

Erik ten Hag had been keen on adding a defensive midfielder to his ranks, and now it appears Ugarte is that man. Manchester United were briefly interested in Youssouf Fofana, who might have been a cheaper alternative to the Uruguayan. Still, the South American ace fits the club’s requirements.

Manchester United making space for Ugarte

Manchester United, under INEOS, has prioritised finding the right market solutions before bringing in new talents. Based on numbers, they have plenty of options in that midfield, meaning they will have to offload someone to make space for Ugarte’s arrival. Scott McTominay remains linked with an exit, with Premier League sides and Napoli keen.

Manchester United is also looking to sell Christian Eriksen, as the Dane’s departure could free up his big wages and thus help boost their transfer budget. Hence, the Red Devils are likely to focus on those outgoings once they reach an agreement with PSG for Ugarte.
