Liverpool keeping tabs on Joan Garcia situation amid Arsenal links

Liverpool are closely monitoring the situation of Arsenal goalkeeping target Joan Garcia as we head into the final phase of the transfer window..

According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, Liverpool are interested in the services of Joan Garcia and have been keeping tabs on the young Spanish goalkeeper’s situation at RCD Espanyol. Arsenal have been working hard to sign Garcia this summer. But it seems the Reds could provide them with tough competition.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has come up the ranks at Espanyol and has been with their first team since the summer of 2021. The 2023/24 campaign was his breakthrough season as he was handed the starting role for the second half of the season.

Garcia kept a total of 12 clean sheets in his 21 outings and helped his team secure a return to the Spanish top flight. He even went on to be a part of the Spanish team at the Olympics, where Spain won the gold medal. While the youngster still has four years left on his deal, he could be on the move before the end of the transfer window.

His initial release clause was €25 million, but it was set to increase after the 15th of August. Now, the new clause is worth €30 million. Arsenal are quite keen on signing Garcia, and they have been asked to pay the release clause.

The Gunners are in the market for a new goalkeeper with Aaron Ramsdale expected to be on the move. They want someone who can cover for David Raya and eventually be their number one. The Spanish goalkeeper is considered to be an ideal fit for them, and he already has a verbal agreement in place with the North London club regarding personal terms.

While Arsenal are closing in on his signature, Liverpool also have their eyes on the 23-year-old. The Reds are looking for a long-term replacement for Alisson Becker. They are working on a deal to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, who is considered to be their priority target.

However, Liverpool also admire Garcia and are closely following his situation to see if there is an opportunity to bring him to Anfield. Things could get complicated if both English giants decide to battle it out for the young goalkeeper, who seems to have huge potential.
