Aston Villa run rule over Lutsharel Geertruida, Liverpool also had scouts at the match

Aston Villa are scouting Feyenoord’s defensive sensation Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of a potential move, with Liverpool also showing interest.

Aston Villa have been one of the busiest teams in the ongoing transfer window. They have added eight new players to Unai Emery’s squad as they prepare to compete in the Champions League. Despite spending a fortune, they are still in the market for a defensive reinforcement and according to a report from HITC, Villa recently watched Feyenoord’s Lutsharel Geertruida ahead of a potential move before the end of the window.

Geertruida has come up the ranks at the Dutch club, he has been a part of their first team since the summer of 2018. The 24-year-old right-back has made quite a name for himself with his consistent performances. He has been a mainstay for Feyenoord in recent seasons and his work has not gone unnoticed.

While Lutsharel Geertruida prefers playing out wide on the right, all his appearances this season have come in the heart of the defence. His ability to feature anywhere in defence along with his potential are what attracts the top clubs from across Europe.

Aston Villa keen on Lutsharel Geertruida

Aston Villa are one of the clubs interested in signing the Dutch international, who contributed towards 14 goals last season. Emery’s team are looking for another defensive addition before the end of the window. With Diego Carlos expected to be on the move amid his links with Fulham, they want to bring in a new centre-back.

While Lutsharel Geertruida is not an out-and-out centre-back, he is well capable of being a cover to their first choice. More importantly, his arrival will further bolster the full-back position, and Unai Emery who loves working with versatile players.

Aston Villa could soon make a move for the 24-year-old as their scouts were spotted watching the Dutch full-back in action. They were present in the stands to watch Feyenoord’s Eredivisie clash against PEC Zwolle on Sunday afternoon.

Liverpool are also in the mix

Feyenoord secured an emphatic 5-1 win, and Geertruida had a great outing in the heart of the defence. Signing the Dutch defender would be a great move for Aston Villa. But they won’t find it that easy as Liverpool are also interested in his services.

The Merseyside club’s scouts were also present in the stands on Sunday, but it is not yet certain if they were there to watch Geertruida. However, Liverpool do hold an interest, and there are high chances Arne Slot could look to reunite with him at Anfield.

There could be an intense battle between the Premier League giants for his signature. Meanwhile, Feyenoord who valued him at £25 million last summer are going to find it difficult to keep hold of him with his contract running out in less than 12 months.
