Liverpool tell Billy Koumetio to find a new club

Liverpool are reportedly prepared to cash in on Billy Koumetio before the summer transfer window shuts down.

According to a report by Football Insider, Liverpool have informed their 21-year-old homegrown prospect Billy Koumetio that he is free to leave the club in the summer transfer window.

Koumetio was highly rated at the club a few years ago. But it seems that the Reds have decided to move him on. Liverpool have a formidable pool of young talent at the club, and they have a proven track record when it comes to nurturing academy prospects as well.

Perhaps, the Premier League giants feel that Koumetio does not have what it takes to develop into an elite player for them in the near future. In addition, Jarell Quansah has likely usurped the young defensive prospect for good after his exploits last season.

There is no doubt that the 21-year-old defender is a talented player, and he has a bright future. Perhaps, taking a step back and focusing on his development would be better for him now. The youngster is already 21, and he will look to secure regular first-team football at this stage of his career. It remains to be seen where he ends up.

Koumetio needs a fresh start

He has plenty of time to develop and improve as a footballer. The player will need to join a club where he will get ample opportunities. Meanwhile, Liverpool will look to invest the proceeds from his departure into a new player. They will need to improve their squad adequately before the summer transfer window closes. The Reds are expected to push for the league title and the domestic trophies.

They will want to do well in the UEFA Champions League as well. Liverpool have a talented squad at their disposal, but they need a couple of quality additions to truly match up to the likes of Arsenal and Manchester City next season.

Meanwhile, Koumetio will certainly be disappointed with the situation, and he would not have wanted to leave his boyhood club ideally. However, he needs to focus on his career and his development now. The 21-year-old is highly rated in English football, and there is unlikely to be a shortage of clubs looking to provide him with an exit route this summer.
