Chido Obi-Martin set for Manchester United medical

Manchester United are closing in on the signature of Arsenal attacking sensation Chido Obi-Martin, medical expected this week.

According to a report from Football Insider, Chido Obi-Martin is all set to part ways with Arsenal to join rivals Manchester United. The Danish youth international is expected to undergo a medical at Old Trafford this week. While he had agreed terms to stay at Arsenal, he has opted to join United as they have offered a better pathway to the first team.

After coming up the ranks at FC Copenhagen, Obi-Martin joined Arsenal’s youth setup in the summer of 2022. He has gone from strength to strength since joining the Gunners and at just 16, he has been putting in some exceptional performances for Arsenal’s Under-18 team. He has scored 32 goals in just 18 matches for the U18s.

He came into the limelight towards the end of 2023 when he scored 10 goals in a game against Liverpool U16s. Multiple top clubs have been monitoring the attacking sensation ever since and Manchester United are one of the clubs who have been trying to snatch him away from Arsenal.

The Red Devils are looking to bring in the best young players under the new part-owners. They want to build for the long run and Obi-Martin’s situation at Arsenal allowed them to try and lure him to Old Trafford. United seem to have succeeded in their attempt.

They have a full agreement in place with the teenager after he accepted a massive offer. He is expected to undergo his medical as a new Manchester United player this week before signing his first professional contract with them on 29th November when he turns 17.

United have fought off significant competition to strike a deal for his services. Obi-Martin had already agreed terms with Arsenal over a new deal but he felt United presented him a better roadmap to the first-team.

Mikel Arteta personally held talks with the 16-year-old to try and convince him to continue at the club. But, they were not ready to fast-track him to the first team. Meanwhile, United’s new assistant manager Ruud van Nistelrooy seems to have a big part in the deal. He was in talks with the young striker and has convinced him to join Old Trafford.
