Leicester City and Southampton are among those eyeing a loan move for Liverpool prodigy Ben Doak, who is desperate for regular game time.
According to The Athletic, Ben Doak has emerged as a target for newly promoted sides Leicester City and Southampton. The newly-promoted Premier League clubs are angling for a loan move, with Liverpool likely to sanction the same following the teenager’s impressive performances and the potential for the future.
Liverpool to loan out Ben Doak?
Liverpool fans might remember Ben Doak with some familiarity when the 18-year-old prodigy used to feature at the start of last season as a deputy for the injured Mohamed Salah. Unfortunately for him, he suffered a knee injury after that, which required surgery, and missed out on the chance of having a breakthrough season.
Given the amount of chances Jurgen Klopp afforded to some of Liverpool’s other youngsters, Doak could have had a greater impact than all others. Moreover, as he returned to fitness at the end of the season, he was indeed called up into the Scotland side for the Euros, which he ended up missing following yet another fitness issue.
The attacker is back to full fitness and might be ready for regular footballing action, although that might not come straight away at Liverpool in the upcoming season. Arne Slot must have had a good look at the youngster during pre-season, with the club ready to send him out on loan for the forthcoming campaign.
Ideally, they will sanction the deal to someplace where he is close to first-team action and might strongly consider a Premier League side for this temporary adventure. Unsurprisingly, the 18-year-old prodigy does have plenty of suitors lining up talks with the Merseysiders, including two newly promoted clubs.
Leicester City and Southampton are vying for Ben Doak
Leicester City are in the market for key additions and could see Ben Doak as a progressive signing who could add attacking depth to their squad. They are also chasing another winger in Reiss Nelson, with talks of a loan ongoing with Arsenal.
Southampton are also keen to bolster their attacking setup, with Ben Doak likely to be seen as a good developmental prospect. They have good relations with Liverpool regarding all the transfers between the clubs over the years and might engage in talks over the loan move for the 18-year-old prodigy.
