Ligue 1 giants Marseille are reportedly gearing up to make an offer for the services of Arsenal academy graduate Eddie Nketiah.
According to a report from Football Insider, Marseille are keen on reinforcing their attack ahead of next season and have their eyes set on Arsenal star Eddie Nketiah. The Ligue 1 club are preparing an offer to lure him away from the Premier League.
Nketiah joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old after being shown the exit doors by Chelsea. He has since gone from strength to strength and has been a part of the Gunners’ first team since the winter of 2019.
While the Englishman has featured in over 160 matches for the North London club and has 38 goals to his name, he has never really had an extended run in the team. Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz are the preferred choices under Mikel Arteta for the number nine position ahead of the academy graduate.
Last season, the 25-year-old managed less than 1,400 minutes of first-team action. With Arsenal now pushing for another top-quality number nine, Nketiah will go further down the pecking order. As a result, a departure could be on the cards.
Marseille pushing for Nketiah
While Nketiah still has three years left on his contract, the Gunners will most likely let him leave for a reasonable price. There is interest in the signature from clubs in the Premier League. But Marseille seem to be very keen on Nketiah’s signature, and they are plotting a raid on Arsenal. They have already contacted the player’s entourage.
The Ligue 1 club’s new boss Roberto De Zerbi is looking to raid the Premier League in an attempt to bolster his squad. They were keen on signing Mason Greenwood, but talks to bring the Manchester United academy graduate to the club have stalled. Marseille have now shifted their attention towards the former Chelsea youth player, who could be available for a cut-price fee.
The English international might not have had an extended run in the Arsenal first team. But he has delivered every time he has got an opportunity, which suggests he could be a sensational acquisition for the French club. While Marseille are the latest club to enter the race for his services, they are already preparing an offer as they look to win the race for his signature.
