Lazio have reached an agreement in principle with Arsenal to sign their 24-year-old full-back Nuno Tavares.
According to a report from Gianluca Di Marzio, Arsenal have agreed on a deal with Lazio to sell Portuguese full-back Nuno Tavares. His move to the North London club hasn’t gone according to plan and Mikel Arteta’s team are ready to part ways with him.
Tavares came up the ranks at Benfica at some pace. He made quite a name for himself playing for their first team before securing a big move to Arsenal in the summer of 2021. Unfortunately, he couldn’t establish himself in their first team and has been subject to loan spells in the last two seasons.
He was on loan at Nottingham Forest last season and things didn’t work out for him as the 24-year-old was subject to the bench for the majority of the season. He was only involved in 12 matches. While he is back at Arsenal, they do not consider the left-sided full-back to be a part of their plans moving ahead.
Lazio closing in on Tavares’ signature
With his contract running out in 12 months, Arteta’s team are looking to cash in on him as they do not want to lose him for free next summer. They have managed to secure a big breakthrough as an agreement in principle has been reached with Lazio regarding Tavares’ sale.
The Italian clubs have been working on a potential deal to sign the left-back for some time now and they have finally managed to agree terms with Arsenal. They have a basic agreement in place according to which Lazio are expected to pay €5 million for his services. The Gunners have also requested for a significant percentage on the future sale of their star.
While the two clubs have agreed terms, Lazio still have a lot to take care of. They need to find an agreement with the Portuguese full-back if they want the deal to go through. Lazio’s sporting director, Fabiani has already talked about their interest in Tavares and he is quite confident about agreeing on terms with the player as they look to complete his signing.
