Newcastle United close in on Odysseas Vlachodimos

Newcastle United are closing in on Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest, as Eddie Howe might have found his deputy keeper.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Newcastle United are close to signing Odysseas Vlachodimos from Nottingham Forest. The Magpies have already booked medicals for the Greek international keeper, as Eddie Howe may have found a deputy to Nick Pope that would end their goalkeeper search.

Newcastle United set to sign Odysseas Vlachodimos

Since the end of the season, a handful of Premier League sides faced potential PSR breaches if they failed to raise funds before the June 30 deadline. At the time of writing, the cut-off might have passed, although some of these sides may have already agreed on deals in the background.

While Newcastle United, Everton, Nottingham Forest, Chelsea, and Aston Villa have all been accused of taking advantage of a potential loophole by trading players between them, the reality is that those teams have not crossed the line in legal terms. Hence, some of the deals, albeit questionable, may not have broken the rules after all.

As part of the many deals between those clubs, Newcastle United may have reached an agreement with Nottingham Forest for the signing of goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos. The keeper is now set for medicals, which the Magpies have already booked, as a deal looks imminent in the coming days.

The transfer appears to be incomplete and pending a medical. Should it go through, it might be booked for a date before June 30 to align with the PSR deadline. Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest is closing in on Elliot Anderson in a move that will cost them £35 million.

Eddie Howe finds his Nick Pope deputy

Eddie Howe had wanted a new keeper in his ranks and brought in an able enough deputy capable of challenging Nick Pope for his place. In their search, Newcastle were linked with names like Liverpool target Giorgi Mamardashvili, Aaron Ramsdale and others, but all those stars are expensive for their taste.

Howe considers Pope his undisputed choice between the posts, and a new man was needed to build depth in the position. Vlachodimos seems like the choice for Newcastle United, with the transfer now imminent pending a medical.
