Marcus Edwards would be open to rejoining Tottenham rather than making the move to Crystal Palace, with Spurs in the race with an advantage.
According to Record via Sport Witness, Tottenham are Marcus Edwards’ preferred destination as he might reject a move to Crystal Palace over the north Londoners. Sporting CP are open to selling him, while Spurs do have an advantage with a sell-on percentage part of the current agreement.
Marcus Edwards is keen on Tottenham return
There has been a Marcus Edwards link to Spurs in the last few transfer windows, and this summer, the move might finally materialise. Ange Postecoglou continues to look at fresh attacking options in the market and might consider a move for the 25-year-old Englishman who plays for Sporting CP.
Edwards has not had the best of seasons for Sporting despite the team winning the Portuguese league. He remains interested in a move to the Premier League amid links to various clubs, including Tottenham, meaning the door remains wide open for Postecoglou’s side to make their move.
In fact, he prefers a return to Spurs over Crystal Palace, with the Eagles also keen on the winger. The 25-year-old Englishman was part of the Tottenham setup before moving to Portugal with Vitoria Guimaraes in 2019. The other London side are keen on him as an opption as they are on the brink of losing Michael Olise to a move to probably Bayern Munich, which is the winger’s preferred destination.
Tottenham can make do with a player of Edwards’ quality, although he might have to fight to get a regular place in the starting lineup. Moreover, Spurs may have an advantage owing to a sell-on percentage in the 25-year-old Englishman’s Sporting CP deal.
Spurs can sign Edwards for €20-30 million
The €20 million price point is what has been suggested by earlier reports despite Edwards’ €60 million release clause at Sporting. Spurs have a 35% sell-on clause, which was reduced from 50% when the Portuguese side negotiated the same during discussions to sell Pedro Porro.
They can effectively sign him for that €20 million figure, although the report suggests Sporting could demand somewhere between €20-30 million. At that price, the Portuguese side will do well in selling a player their manager, Ruben Amorim, no longer wants. Spurs could benefit from his addition, as Postecoglou could have much better depth in his attacking setup.
