Arsenal are keen on keeping close tabs on Jonathan David at the Copa America, with the striker entering his last contractual year at LOSC Lille.
According to Fichajes, Jonathan David has emerged as a player of interest to Arsenal, who will likely watch the Canadian striker in action at the Copa America. The USA-born frontman will enter the final year of his deal at LOSC Lille, with many other clubs, including Manchester United, keeping close tabs on the forward.
Arsenal will watch Jonathan David at the Copa America?
In the last few years, Jonathan David has seen persistent links with a move to the Premier League. Manchester United are one of the sides keen on the striker, but so are many others in the queue. The Red Devils intend to sign a new striker, and the Canadian certainly fits their requirements.
Chelsea are also keen and have recently made a more concrete enquiry about his availability, while West Ham is also interested. David’s 26 goals last season in all competitions for LOSC Lille prove he’s a prolific and consistent goalscorer, but his price tag, with 12 months left on his current deal, makes him an attractive proposition.
Whether Arsenal is thinking along the same lines remains to be seen, as the Gunners are now reportedly keeping close tabs on the Canadian at the Copa America. If they had already watched the striker for Canada, they would have been pleased by his goalscoring performance against Peru, although he did draw a blank against Argentina in the opening encounter.
Mikel Arteta needs a new striker to compete with Kai Havertz and Gabriel Jesus, but more so to replace Eddie Nketiah, who is expected to leave. David, with his potentially achievable price tag, may become a solid option for Arsenal to consider, but they are already facing plenty of competition.
Arsenal’s striker plans
Arsenal had wanted Benjamin Sesko, and had they signed the Slovenian, they might have closed the chapter on signing a new striker. However, they are back in the mix, and the market has been slow due to the ongoing Euros and Copa America.
They have been watching stars like Laurtaro Martinez and Santiago Gimenez alongside David at the Copa America, as they might make a new decision after these tournaments end. Only time will tell what sort of striker Arteta signs, although David might be a good bet.
