Arsenal agree deal to sign Viktor Gyokeres

Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal are all set to secure the services of Sporting CP striker Viktor Gyokeres in a deal worth €90 million.

According to a report from Leonino, Arsenal are closing in on the signature of Viktor Gyokeres. The Sporting CP striker was in sensational form last season and on the back of it, Mikel Arteta’s team have agreed terms with the Portuguese outfit to sign him.

Arsenal’s search for a new number nine

The Gunners have come within touching distance of the Premier League title in the last two seasons. But, unfortunately, they haven’t been able to go over the line and have lost out to Manchester City. Arteta feels his squad need more quality to get the better of Pep Guardiola’s team.

The Spanish manager is convinced that a world-class striker will help them gap the bridge. He has been frustrated by the lack of output of his forwards and wants to incorporate new number nine into the mix. Viktor Gyokeres is one of the forwards that Arsenal have been interested in.

They have closely monitored him and are quite confident that he could fit well in their system. Gyokeres who arrived a Sporting last summer from Coventry City for €20 million managed to contribute towards 58 goals in his debut season.

He found the back of the net on 43 occasions in his 50 outings. His exceptional form in front of goal hasn’t gone unnoticed and on the back of his overall performance, people at the North London club are convinced that he could help their cause.

Arsenal strike a deal with Sporting for Gyokeres

As a result, they have been pushing hard for his signature. While the player still has four years left on his deal and he is protected by a €100 million release clause, the Gunners have still managed to strike a deal for a lower fee.

Arsenal are closing in on the Swedish star’s signature as they have stuck a deal worth €120 million in total. They will be paying €90 million upfront with other €30 million in variables that will depend on his performances as well as the number of appearances he makes.

Negotiations between both parties have evolved quite quickly and the report suggests that the deal could be completed by the end of the month.
