Julen Lopetegui’s West Ham United have reportedly held talks with Premier League rivals Wolves for the services of their skipper Max Kilman.
According to a report from HITC, West Ham United are keen on reinforcing their defence in the summer on the back of their poor run last season. The Hammers have their eyes set on Max Kilman and have held talks with Wolves as they look to strike a deal for his services.
Kilman has established himself as a reliable defender in the Premier League on the back of his performances for Wolves in the recent season. His consistency has resulted in a lot of interest, and West Ham are one of the admirers.
The Hammers have been interested in the 27-year-old for a while now. They wanted to sign him last summer, but he ended up penning down a deal which now runs until the summer of 2028. Despite that, West Ham have reignited their interest in the Wolves skipper ahead of the 2024/25 season.
The East London club had a disastrous campaign defensively last time out as only the relegated clubs conceded more goals in the Premier League. Lopetegui, who has recently taken charge of the Hammers, is keen on adding more quality to the backline as he wants to ensure they do not end up having the same problems.
West Ham hold talks to sign Kilman
After talks with Fabricio Bruno broke down, West Ham have decided to push hard for the services of Max Kilman to bolster their backline. Their Spanish manager would love to reunite with the English centre-back.
The Hammers feel he could help solve many of their defensive problems, and his leadership qualities could be a bonus. As a result, West Ham have held talks with Wolves for the services of Kilman.
While Lopetegui’s team have made initial moves towards signing him, there is still a lot of work to be done. The new deal that Kilman penned down last summer means Wolves will have the upper hand in negotiations. They will only listen to offers in the region of £50 million.
The Molineux outfit are in no rush to cash in on their skipper. They do not have any financial problems and do not need to make any sales to balance their books. As a result, Wolves’ stance on Kilman’s future is unlikely to change. West Ham will have to fork out significant funds if they want to bring the 27-year-old to the club, and it won’t be an easy decision to make.
