Tottenham are looking to make their first summer signing as key areas have been identified this could be a critical window for the team.
According to Football Insider, Tottenham have identified critical areas of their squad that need reinforcements as they are poised to make their first summer signing. A new midfielder, forward and at least two defenders are needed at Spurs, as Ange Postecoglou wants a successful window ahead of the new season.
Tottenham looking for their first summer signing
Tottenham are set to embark on a severe summer window that could see them strengthen some critical areas of their squad that Ange Postecoglou feels lacked the power from the previous campaign. The Australian manager wants the club to see through his vision and figure out a transfer strategy that would enable them to have a successful season.
Strength in depth is a severe issue for Tottenham, and that’s something Postecoglou wants to resolve, especially in defence. On paper, Spurs have one of the best backlines when all his starters are fit, but beyond that, there’s little cover or competition. Hence, one new full-back to compete with Pedro Porro is required, while a new centre-back is also on the horizon.
They might act smart in the window, as some of their linked targets suggest. Postecoglou may prefer a left-sided versatile defender who can play centrally and even cover for Destiny Udogie. For instance, they are keen on Hiroki Ito, the Stuttgart defender who is capable of playing in both positions. They initially wanted Riccardo Calafiori for the same reason, but the Italians seemed destined to join Juventus.
As for the right-back slot, Monaco’s Vanderson is considered to be a target, as Spurs are eager to sign the Brazilian as a replacement for compatriot Emerson Royal. Overall, Spurs are focused on bringing their first summer signing, although theoretically, they may have already signed Timo Werner on a season-long loan deal from RB Leipzig.
A new forward and midfielder targetted
Moving away from defenders, Spurs are also keen on bringing in a midfielder, with Conor Gallagher their preferred target in that area. The Chelsea star may leave Stamford Bridge despite the Blues easing through their troubles with the Premier League’s PSR obligations, as they do not see Gallagher fitting into Enzo Maresca’s style.
Meanwhile, they are looking to add goals to their attack, as a new forward might come in either to add to the squad or as a replacement for Richarlison. An attacking midfielder is also on their agenda, with Morgan Gibbs-White a key target ahead of what seems like a vital summer window for Tottenham.
