Manchester United legend Jaap Stam has reportedly been approached for a technical role behind the scenes at Old Trafford.
According to a report from Tutto Mercato Web, Manchester United have reached out to their former defensive star Jaap Stam in an attempt to bring him back to the club. They want the former Dutch international to work behind the scenes at the club.
Things have not really gone according to plan for the Red Devils in the 2023/24 season. While Erik ten Hag’s debut season did give the fans a bit of hope, the ongoing campaign has not done them any good. They have been below par throughout.
Manchester United do have the chance of ending the season on a high with a win over Manchester City in the FA Cup final. That fixture could end up deciding the future of ten Hag at the club. He has been under the pump for a while and could be prone to a potential departure.
While there is no certainty over who Manchester United’s manager next season will be, the club are busy making moves under their new part-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe. They have already made some appointments in key positions at the club and are now looking to bring Jaap Stam back to the club.
Manchester United want to bring Stam back
The 51-year-old was a part of Manchester United for three seasons (1998-2001). During those three years, United won the Premier League title three times in a row and even lifted the UEFA Champions League along with a few other trophies. The centre-back was key to their success back in the day, and the new part-owners want him back at Old Trafford as they look to revive the club.
Stam has been working as a coach since 2009 but is currently without a club. While Manchester United want him back at the club, they are not looking to offer him a coaching role. The Red Devils want him to be a link between the club and the technical staff who will be taking charge ahead of next season.
Contacts have been initiated between Manchester United and Stam to evaluate a potential return to Old Trafford. They seem determined to make him an important part of the club’s rebuild and it will be interesting to see if he does end up taking the role.
