Newcastle United position themselves to sign Giorgi Mamardashvili

Newcastle United are keen on acquiring the services of Valencia shot-stopper Giorgi Mamardashvili as they look to reinforce their squad.

According to a report from MARCA, Newcastle United are looking to sign a new goalkeeper in the summer, and they have their eyes set on Giorgi Mamardashvili. The Valencia star is a priority target for the Magpies, and they have already initiated a move to sign him.

Mamardashvili made the move to the La Liga club in the summer of 2021 from Dinamo Tbilisi on loan. On the back of his impressive start, the move was made permanent at the start of 2022. Valencia managed to sign the Georgian international for less than a million euros.

The 23-year-old shot-stopper has only gone from strength to strength since making the move to Spain, becoming one of the best goalkeepers in La Liga. And his impressive rise has resulted in interest from across Europe.

Eddie Howe’s team keen on Mamardashvili

While top clubs all over Europe are keen on signing him, Newcastle United have been the fastest to react. The Magpies have already positioned themselves to land Mamardashvili at the club ahead of next season.

Eddie Howe’s team have not reached the levels they did last time out. One of the major concerns for them has been the performance of their goalkeepers. Nick Pope has been out injured for half of the season, while Martin Dubravka has not been able to live up to expectations.

To resolve those issues around the goalkeeping position, the Magpies are looking to sign a new number one in the summer and they feel Mamardashvili will be an ideal fit for the club. He could take charge as their undisputed number one for years to come and given the fact that is only 23, he will get better with time.

While he still has over three years left on his deal at the Spanish club, they are ready to negotiate his departure as it will help them balance their books and register significant profit. Valencia are looking for a minimum of €40 million to begin negotiations. In the end, the final fee of a potential transfer could be much higher as there are other clubs in the mix.
