Alessandro Buongiorno wants UCL football next season amid Tottenham links

Tottenham Hotspur-linked Torino defensive sensation Alessandro Buongiorno wants Champions League football for next season.

According to a report by Calciomercato, Tottenham Hotspur are looking to reinforce their defence ahead of next season, and they have their eyes set on Alessandro Buongiorno. The Torino centre-back has been in exceptional form of late, and there could be a bidding war for his services in the summer.

Buongiorno has been a part of the Torino setup since his childhood days. He came up the ranks at some pace and made it to their first team in the summer of 2020. Following a few loan spells elsewhere, the 24-year-old has managed to establish himself in their first team.

In the ongoing season, he has featured in 29 matches for the Serie A club and has even contributed towards four goals. The player has been a standout performer for them throughout the season, and his consistent display has resulted in a lot of interest from across Europe.

Clubs wanted to sign the Italian international in the winter transfer window, but Torino stood in his way. But, the Serie A outfit might not be able to hold onto their star defender for long, as the interest in his services is now at an all-time high.

Tottenham keen on the €40 million-rated centre-back

Torino are looking for a fee of €40 million, and they have no intention of negotiating. With his contract running until the summer of 2028, Torino have the upper hand heading into the summer. Tottenham are one of the clubs keen on having him in their ranks.

Spurs are all set to undergo quite a few changes to their squad in the summer, and reinforcing the defence is going to be a priority. Despite having signed Micky van de Ven and Radu Dragusin over the last two windows, Ange Postecoglou wants more depth and quality at the back as looks to challenge the best teams in the country.

While they Tottenham keen on signing one of the best defensive talents of Serie A and have the financial power to meet Torino’s demands, they face a threat in the pursuit of the 24-year-old’s services.

Tottenham to miss out on Buongiorno?

Buongiorno wants to feature in the Champions League next season, and Tottenham, who are currently fifth in the Premier League, might not be able to offer him the opportunity to play in Europe’s biggest club competition. They are unlikely to finish fourth and the Premier League have missed out on an extra spot for next season’s UEFA Champions League.

Moreover, there is strong interest in his services from AC Milan, Napoli and Bayern Munich. Milan and Bayern can both offer him the opportunity to feature in the Champions League. As a result, Tottenham are going to find it very difficult to sign him.
