Newcastle United are closing in on the signature of 26-year-old Tottenham Hotspur target Tosin Adarabioyo.
According to Alan Nixon, Newcastle United are all set to acquire the services of Tosin Adarabioyo ahead of next season. The Magpies want to reinforce their defence in the upcoming transfer window and they are close to completing a bosman move for the 26-year-old Fulham defender.
Things might not have worked out for Adarabioyo at Manchester City but he has managed to make a name for himself since joining the Cottagers towards the end of 2020. He has been a consistent performer for them over the years.
Tosin Adarabioyo to part ways with Fulham?
While the 26-year-old did struggle with injury at the start of the season, he has been a constant feature for them since regaining full fitness. Adarabioyo has once again had an impressive season and there is a lot of interest in him because of his contract situation.
His current deal with Fulham runs out after the end of the season and he is unlikely to pen down a new deal. With the former City defender available for free quite a few clubs are keen on having him in their squad.
Tottenham are one of the clubs interested in the 26-year-old. They are keen on adding more depth to their defence and are looking for a cost-effective option. With Adarabioyo likely to be a free agent in the near future, the North London club are pushing for his signature.
Newcastle closing in on Fulham star’s signature
But, it seems Newcastle United have pushed ahead of the competition. Eddie Howe’s team want more depth at the back as they have suffered because of injuries to key defenders. Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles are both currently out and may not be fit for the initial phase of next season.
Howe is keen on signing a new centre-back to ensure he has enough options at his disposal from the start. Adarabioyo has been at the top of their wishlist for a while now. Signing the 26-year-old for free will be a massive boost for them given his quality and the fact that he is in his prime and has a lot of years left in him.
While they have the richest owners (PIF), they can’t really splash the cash because of financial fair play regulations. As a result, this could be a great move for them. The report suggests the Magpies have now won the race as they have convinced him to join the club and according to the report, he will be earning around £6 million a year at Newcastle, which is around £115,000-a-week.
